Daily Dose: How’s Your Heart?

February is American Heart Month.  This month is not only a time for lovers to celebrate together on Valentine’s Day but also a time to bring awareness to the #1 killer of both men and women in America, Heart Disease.  You probably know someone who has either died or suffered from a heart attack.  For me it was my dad just a few years back.   We didn’t lose him but it was a close call.  I remember thinking back then how this could have been prevented.  More exercise.  Better diet.  Different choices.  A healthier lifestyle.  Sure, all those would have been great but sometimes those tidbits of advice come too late.  It’s not until tragedy stricks that people change.  If there is anything you need to change in your life to live healthier then now is the time to do it.  Don’t wait until one morning at 2am when you find yourself short of breath and collapse on the living room floor in agonizing pain from years of poor health choices.  Don’t wait to take charge of your health.  You have a long life ahead of you.  Start living fit now!

On another note I came across this quick trailer for a movie called “Fat Head: You’ve Been Fed a Load of Bologna”.  (Has anyone seen it?)

Today’s FitCamp!

“FitCamp Ladder 1″ – Start with 1 repetition of each exercise, then 2 repetitions of each exercise, then 3 and so on until your reach 10 reps of each or 30 minutes.

Daily Dose: Moment of Choice

If you are like most sports enthusiasts in America then chances are you didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night staying up late to watch the Saints and Colts battle it out in the Superbowl.  If that’s you then you probably also made a few unhealthy food choices and maybe even had a few alcoholic beverages while munching on some chips and dip.  AND, right about now you probably feel like the stuff you scrape off your shoe when you step in it.  So let me ask you this.  What’s your plan to getting back to feeling energized, healthy and on track with your Spring time health and fitness goals?

Do you skip the workout today and live to fight another day OR do you suck it up, get out of bed, lace up your sneaks and do what you know you need to do and get to FitCamp.   This is what I call your “Moment of Choice”.   The moment right before you decide to do something (or not to do something).   The moment you ask yourself the important questions that will either make or break your success… everytime.  This moment is what separates those who are successful with weight loss, eating healthy and living fit and those who continue to struggle day after day.  The choice is all yours but I do know one thing that will help you.  As a human you are gifted with something special called “free will”.  What that means is that you can decide to do anything you want at anytime.  Right now you have a choice.  What will you decide?

Daily Dose: Thursday, 1/28/10

Okay, back to business. Just shot a quick video for you today to give you a new kind of Daily Dose.  Once you watch please leave me a quick comment using the comment link above.

If anyone can come up with a fun and creative name for my yellow kettlebell in the background I will give them 5 ProGrade Cravers! Yum!

After watching the video I realized that you can’t read the sign in the background.  It may be obvious at the end of the video but in case you were wondering.  It reads “Happy Birthday Rachael!  Love ya Sis!”

Daily Dose: Wednesday 1/27/10

A side note on today’s workout:  Due to the all-time low attendance for yesterday’s FRAN workout it seems that the Daily Dose has backfired.  SO, I have decided to take a new approach…

Today’s FitCamp:  “The Terrible 3’s”

WARM-UP:  3 Warm blankets will be used to bring your muscles up to temperature and increase blood flow throughout your entire body.

SKILL:  Today we will be practicing 3 step breathing (inhale, exhale, repeat).  Not too heavy, just relaxed, calm and controlled… breathing.

MAIN WORKOUT:

3 Air Squats, 3 Push-ups, 3 Sit-ups, 3 Pull-ups
3 minute rest
Repeat just one time to prevent sweating

CORE SET:  Inhale, exhale, upon exhale hold abs tight for 3 seconds then relax.

COOL-DOWN:  We will conclude today’s workout with a 55 minute rest period (nap).

Looking forward to seeing you in class! :)
